Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Oversees the collection, entry and management of healthcare information and systems

- Abstracts information from medical records following procedures

- Conducts audits and coding reviews to ensure all documentation is accurate and precise

- Reviews medical records to ensure specificity of diagnoses and procedures

- Contacts physicians and other health care professionals with questions about treatments or diagnostic tests given to patients with regard to coding

- Provides education/training to physicians and other health care professionals on coding, clinical documentation and EHR utilization

- Maintains EHR training material and procedures and ensure updates of necessary templates and modules

- Mentors and trains coders, transcriptions, EHR specialists and oversees transcription of medical visits into the EHR's system

- Ensures activation of clinic computers/system on arrival and shut down at the end of the day

- Responsible for creation and maintenance of clinical activity reports and clinical outcomes analyses

- Maintains and manages inventory of computers, printers and scanners

- Performs related duties as assigned by Executive Director

- Maintains compliance with all company policies and procedures

 

Educational/Experience/Physical Job Requirements:

- Bachelor's degree in health information management, computer science, healthcare or other related field

- Medical coding/claims/financial experience

- Strong data management and computer skills required including reporting and database terminology, development of spreadsheets, analysis and manipulation of complex data from multiple data sources.

- Excellent computer proficiency: MS Office, EHR, MS SQL, Crystal Reports, Microsoft Access or similar

- Able to handle multiple tasks, problem solve, troubleshoot and work under pressure with time constraints while maintaining a positive attitude

- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, ability to identify reporting/data errors and develop corrective action plans

- Aptitude for understanding business environment and translating business requirements into technical solutions

- Understanding of anatomy and physiology, medical terminology and disease processes to effectively apply ICD and CPT coding principles
