JOB SUMMARY:
The University of New Haven’s Director of Organizational Development and Talent Strategy serves as a primary strategic partner and core member of the Human Resources leadership team, helping to build and execute on programs that link university and talent & organizational design strategies together. This role’s primary function is to build our capacity to recruit, select, onboard, develop, and retain staff.
This position will oversee the university’s talent acquisition, onboarding, learning and development, leadership and professional development, talent and succession planning, and workplace culture initiatives and efforts. In partnership with the Associate Vice President of Human Resources, the successful incumbent will support a talent strategy that ensures this center of excellence is connected to driving the university’s priorities and increases effectiveness of our organization by and for our greatest asset, our people.
MAJOR ROLES & RESPONSIBILTIES:
- Plans, organizes, controls, manages, and evaluates the work of the Organizational Development and Talent Strategy staff. Participates in establishing operational plans and initiatives to meet Human Resources department goals and objectives; implements departmental plans, work programs, processes, procedures, and policies required to achieve overall department performance results; coordinates and integrates department functions and responsibilities to achieve optimal efficiency and effectiveness. Determines key metrics to monitor progress of initiatives.
- Participates with other managers in establishing talent management and workforce planning strategic goals for the University or unit, translating those into organizational tools, resources, or materials that can be leveraged across the enterprise.
- Leads initiatives that drive organizational performance and change management for the university, strategically contributing to the design of leadership and professional learning and development programs at UNH. Focuses on improving organizational performance and contemporary adult learning theories to reinforce concepts, engage staff, and the confirmation of concept knowledge to apply within the workplace and beyond.
- Develops and coordinates recommended development strategies, initiatives, programs, and best practices to support the university campus and its employee populations. Leads the development of tools and related instruction and supports the development of processes, develops curriculum, and facilitates training and development programs in support of these tools as necessary.
- Evaluates, plans, and champions the performance management process for supervisors and staff; assists managers and staff in setting personal and professional development targets; evaluates tools and introduces new resources to enhance staff capabilities.
- Establishes, coordinates, and executes the implementation of strategic recruitment and onboarding initiatives, managing day to day operations. Guides the overall strategies, objectives, and long-term planning efforts for the university, helping to guide the formulation of headcount planning recommendations, talent attraction methods, and support for diversity, equity, inclusion, access, and belonging initiatives. Oversees onboarding program ensuring cultural alignment and appropriate adjustment to organizational expectations and values.
- Helps support a culture of reward and recognition by assisting with the design and implementation of programs that recognize employees, with a focus on improving culture and employee engagement.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Required Education:
- Bachelor’s degree with a major in public or business administration, human resources management, psychology, or a closely related field required.
- Master’s Degree preferred.
- At least seven years of progressively responsible management experience required.
EXPERIENCE/TRAINING
- Experience and demonstrated success with orchestrating organizational development and change plans and programs. Demonstrated ability with teaching and leading manager and professional development programs and training, or other organizational effectiveness projects.
- Demonstrated excellence with facilitation and presentation skills. Strong project management required, and the ability to develop reports, dashboards, and metrics to assess course efficiency and adoption.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively lead a team, appropriately assessing the needs of clients to allocate work assignments and ensure adequate staffing levels. Ability to identify, develop and move top talent to meet business needs and increase the growth of the University.
- Proven track record in implementing progressive human resources strategies.
- Experience in the implementation of progressive recruitment strategies and metrics which support equal employment opportunity and diversity and inclusion objectives preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of the University, exercising tact and diplomacy in dealing with complex and confidential workforce topics.
