THE SEARCH
The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB), the state’s only public health, law, and human services university, seeks a transformational and inspirational leader with deep experience in sponsored program and research administration to serve as the Associate Vice President of Sponsored Programs Administration (AVP). The AVP will provide strategic oversight and hands-on administrative and operational leadership for pre-award research and scholarly activity across UMB’s seven schools, a research enterprise that totaled $629 million in federal, state, and other non-profit grants and contracts in FY21. The AVP is a key university leader and contributor who supports the advancement of priorities and guides the strategic direction of the Department of Sponsored Program Administration (SPA).
Reporting to the Senior Vice President and Chief Enterprise and Economic Development Officer James L. Hughes, the AVP will serve as an institutional expert, resource, and thought leader, collaboratively engaging with stakeholders across UMB to advance university sponsored research, providing leadership in support of the development, facilitation, implementation, evaluation, and administration of a wide variety of research programs and initiatives. This is an extraordinary opportunity for an experienced research administration leader to drive the strategic and operational development of this growing sponsored research enterprise, setting the stage for the continued expansion of sponsored research at UMB.
