Then come join the Town of Hilton Head Island as a Mechanic and get it all.We are seeking a full-time Mechanic who can perform general maintenance and repair of firefighting and rescue equipment, powered equipment and tools as well as all other Town vehicles. Responsibilities include:- Performing a variety of preventive maintenance and repairs on Town vehicles and equipment, including fire apparatus, ambulances, rescue boats, and generators, to ensure safe and efficient operation; inspects and services vehicles and equipment as scheduled;- Repairing fire equipment such as nozzles, fire hoses, fans, and tools;- Conducting weekly fire station rounds for safety checks and repairs;- Transferring vehicles and equipment;- Updating and maintains records using appropriate computer software;- Maintaining an efficient inventory of parts and supplies for vehicles and equipment to ensure timely and efficient maintenance and repairs, including ordering parts and supplies as necessary;- Performing motor and vehicle part and repair installation, including warning lights and safety equipment in new vehicles, exhaust repair, rear end repairs, fuel system and fuel pump repairs, replacement of gaskets, alternators, and starters;- Troubleshooting A/C, air and hydraulic and electronic systems on all Town vehicles and equipment, and makes necessary repairs as required; and- Repairing and maintains gas powered equipment such as lawn mowers, chain saws and similar.This is a non-exempt position (eligible for overtime pay) with a hiring range of $40,366 - $51,467. Minimum requirements:-High School Diploma or GED;-5 years of automotive repair experience;-Must be in good physical health as determined by a medical examination.-Valid Class A Driver's License with X and P endorsements (Hazardous Materials, Tanker, and Passenger) obtained within one year of hire.Desired certifications:-Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Master Automotive Technician Certification-Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Master Medium/Heavy Truck Technician Certification-Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) Master Fire Apparatus Technician-Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT)Master Ambulance Technician
