Job Description:
The Foster Youth College Success Initiative (FYCSI) Coordinator will be responsible for developing programs, services, and procedures to improve the personal and academic of foster care students attending SUNY institutions. The incumbent will also serve as the Office of Opportunity Programs liaison to the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) staff in one of the sectors of our SUNY campuses. This individual will be part of a dynamic team that will report to the Student Advocate and Executive Director of Opportunity Programs. Job duties and responsibilities include:

  • Work closely with New York State Education Department (SED) to design and implement all programs, tasks and activities required to effectively deliver SED funding to deliver direct support to students funded through the FYCSI
  • Provide rosters of students to New York State Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) to review for program eligibility
  • Guide SUNY campus personnel in identifying eligible campus youth enrolled in SUNY
  • Prepare, update, and disseminate information about the FYCSI
  • Prepare and monitor budget and campus expenditures for FYCSI
  • Coordinate with campus financial aid staff to disseminate to package eligible students with FYCSI funds
  • Build a thriving community among FYCSI student enrolled in SUNY
  • Serve as liaison to foster care agencies in connecting foster youth with educational opportunities
  • Support the management and development of university-wide opportunity programs
  • Service as liaisons to EOP Directors, supervisors, and campus staff at assigned campuses.
  •  Work with campus EOP Directors within assigned sector to strength and develop programs, services and activities that promote access, completion, and success for EOP students
  • Assist EOP directors and staff at campuses within SUNY sector in the areas of EOP fiscal management, enrollment management, and interpretation of EOP guidelines

Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Three years of experience in the provision of education, training, or other services to disadvantaged, under-resourced, or underrepresented populations or related experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Capacity for working effectively as part of a team
  • Exceptional interpersonal, organizational, and organizational skills
  • Proficiency with Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • New York State foster care system
  • Knowledge of effective strategies for promoting access and success for marginalized student populations

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Social Work, Education, Higher Education, Administration or a related field
  • Experience in higher education
  • Experience with implementation of programs, policies, and procedures
  • Successful grant-writing experience
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, as part of a team, and in collaboration with program administration and key campus partners
