Description
The Pump & Engine Mechanic will maintain various types of rotating equipment and will be responsible for troubleshooting and repair of various pumps, steam turbines, gearboxes, fans, blowers, mixers, reciprocating engines and compressors and ensures proper installation of equipment to industry standards at the Phillips 66 Borger Refinery located in Borger, Texas. The starting rate of pay for a Pump & Engine Mechanic depends on the candidate’s skill level after completion of assessments and may range from $31.77/hour with the ability to reach top craft pay within 24 months which is currently $43.33/hour.
This position requires successful completion of aptitude, behavioral and skills testing and an on-site interview. Candidates who receive an offer of employment will then be required to successfully complete a pre-employment due diligence process that consists of things like a background check, medical, hearing, respiratory and vision exams and agility testing.

Responsibilities May Include
-
Removing, troubleshooting and repairing various types of pumps, steam turbines, gearboxes, fans, blowers, mixers, reciprocating engines and compressors
-
Repairing various types of mechanical seals
-
Installing and adjusting packing
-
Aligning equipment to industry standards using dial indicators or laser alignment equipment
-
Using large hydraulic and pneumatic tools
-
Operating motorized and manual equipment
-
Performing work activities that include pulling, lifting, twisting, working in confined spaces and on elevated platforms requiring fall protection
-
Entering and retrieving computer data
-
Using fire equipment when necessary along with many other general maintenance activities
Position Requirements
Basic/Required:
-
Legally authorized to work in the job posting country

Technical certification for Pump & Engine Mechanic (or higher) by December 2019 or minimum of 2 years of related equivalent work experience
-
Must be at least 18 years of age
-
Must have and maintain a valid driver's license
-
Willing and able to perform/comply with following items, with or without reasonable accommodation:

Work at least an 8-hour shift and up to a 12-hour shift, which includes some weekends, holidays and nights

Available for on-call responsibilities

Work overtime

Work in enclosed spaces, such as tanks and silos

Work near large, hot, high-speed machines

Climb up to 250 feet in height

Lift up to 50 pounds

Workaround chemicals, including acids and bases

Wear fire retardant clothing and personal protective equipment (such as steel-toe shoes, ear and eye protection)

Maintain your face daily so that a respirator/face mask can seal properly (some examples include being free of facial hair and/or clean shaven)

Perform firefighting duties

Work outside in harsh weather conditions

Work with petroleum products that are under high pressure and high temperatures

Evacuate in a safe and timely manner in the event of an emergency

Able to read at a level to understand written safety procedures, work procedures, work permits, instruction manuals

Learn computer software associated with process operations
Preferred:
-
3 or more years of experience working with pumps, compressors or engines as a Pump and Engine Mechanic or Compressor Mechanic
-
4 or more years of Military experience working with pumps, compressors or engines
-
Associate's degree in Industrial Machinery Maintenance
-
3 or more years of direct experience working in a refinery and/or chemical industry
-
2 or more years of recent continuous full-time work experience
-
Experience with SAP's Maintenance Module or other ERP Maintenance modules
-
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
-
Strong oral / written communication skills and the ability to interact and work in a team environment
-
Strong interpersonal and written communication skills
-

The Borger Refinery is located in Borger, Texas, in the Texas Panhandle, approximately 50 miles north of Amarillo, Texas. Refinery facilities include crude distilling, naphtha reforming, fluid catalytic cracking, alkylation, hydrodesulfurization and delayed coking units, as well as an NGL fractionation facility. The refinery processes primarily medium sour crude oil produced locally, and heavy sour crude oil produced in Canada, all of which are delivered by pipeline. Borger produces a high percentage of transportation fuels, as well as petroleum coke, NGLs and solvents. Refined products are distributed to customers via pipelines from the refinery to West Texas, New Mexico, Colorado and the Midcontinent region.
