DISCIPLINE LEAD AND UNIT DIRECTOR FOR PHARMACOLOGY

The Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine (HWCOM) at Florida International University (FIU) seeks applicants for a part- time or full-time, non-tenure, open rank faculty (assistant, associate, or full professor) position. The ideal candidate will have a history of teaching excellence in medical education and the leadership skills to serve as the Pharmacology Discipline Lead across the four-year MD curriculum and as the Unit Director for the Pharmacology Unit of the first-year Foundations II course. In this position the selected candidate will collaborate with Course Directors, Unit Directors, Clerkship Directors, and other course faculty to design and implement teaching sessions to cover identified pharmacology content across the curriculum. This position will be responsible for managing and developing the pharmacology unit into a dynamic and innovative learning environment, restructuring the unit in response to student feedback and course reviews, managing the teaching faculty and promoting collaboration, identifying gaps and redundancies in content, and incorporating effective learning and assessment formats. Also, this position will provide instruction in basic science courses and the basic science components of clinical courses primarily in the area of Pharmacology and also in other areas of basic medical science as per personal expertise and the needs of the curriculum (predominantly MD Program but may include, as needed, other programs like the Master in Physician Assistant Studies Program, the Graduate Certificate Program, etc.).

 

Minimum qualifications include a terminal doctoral degree, MD/DO, Pharm D or Ph.D. in basic science disciplines, such as Biomedical Sciences, Pharmacology, Anatomy, Molecular and Cellular Biology, or related field. Preferred qualifications include, the ability to teach additional disciplines (such as microbiology, pathology, histology, immunology), experience with the use of technology and active learning instruction, three (3) years of relevant teaching experience in medical education, and previous experience as a Course Director.
