Dental Assistant

Needed for a busy practice in Beaufort, SC. Assistant must be experienced, kind, outgoing, highly motivated and a team player. Benefits such as health insurance and vacation are included. Experience with CBCT, implants and Endodontics are not necessary, but recommended.  

Dental Assistant Duties and Responsibilities

  • Gathering patient information and health background
  • Pulling up patient dental and relevant medical history for dentist to refer to during examination
  • Preparing patients for dentist
  • Providing patient care and support
  • Taking X-rays of patient’s teeth and processing results
  • Sterilizing dental instruments and equipment
  • Preparing the work area for procedures
  • Assisting dentist by using suction hoses and other equipment during exam
  • Assisting dentist by handing them instruments and equipment, taking notes when needed
  • Educating patients on good oral hygiene habits
  • Preparing materials for crowns or dental impressions
  • Performing coronal polishing, sealant application, fluoride application, and topical anesthetic application as needed
  • Updating patient records and treatment plans
  • Directing patients and maintaining schedule
  • Stocking treatment areas and monitoring inventory
  • Calling patients for aftercare and answering questions on procedures and follow-up treatment appointments

Dental Assistant Requirements and Qualifications

  • Accurate and precise attention to detail
  • Excellent understanding of dental hygiene procedures
  • Compassionate and caring of patients
  • Knowledge of aseptic and sterilizing techniques
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to work in an intense, concentrated environment
  • Calm and cool-headed with a positive attitude
  • Complies with all regulations, protocols, and procedure
  • Degree from school accredited by Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) and American Dental Association
  • Dental Assisting certification: Licensed, registered, or certified by the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB)
  • Current certification in CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation)
  • X-Ray Certification: Meet all local and state requirements to operate radiography equipment
  • Understanding of standard practices and procedures
  • Good interpersonal skills and communication
  • Computer skills; Microsoft Office Suite and/or scheduling software
