Paralegal and/or Prosecution Support Specialist
PARALEGAL and/or Prosecution Support Specialist Office of The State’s Attorney
SUMMARY The Office of the State’s Attorney is seeking applicants for a full-time paralegal and/or prosecution support specialist position in our Circuit Court Office. Responsibilities may include assisting visitors, answering phones, processing mail, entering and uploading information across multiple computer programs, verifying scheduling dockets, gathering evidence, file pleadings through Maryland Electronic Courts (MDEC), complete Nolle Prosequi/Stet forms and incorporate into database, conduct legal research utilizing legal software applications (Westlaw), preparing criminal cases in Juvenile or Circuit Court, assist prosecuting attorneys in felony and misdemeanor case preparation, composing and mailing correspondence and other duties as they arise.
QUALIFICATIONS
Prior paralegal/legal assistant experience and degree is preferred, but not required. Applicant must be able to pass a criminal background check and be certified to run records through the NCIC/METERS system. Must be detail-oriented, have good communication skills, and have the ability to quickly learn multiple computer software systems.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Google Apps including drive, sheets and docs. Strong organizational and writing skills, be detail oriented and be able to work at a consistently high volume. Knowledge of legal terminology and the criminal justice system and being commissioned as or able to be commissioned as a Notary in the State of Maryland is STRONGLY preferred. Have a good working relationship with all attorneys, law enforcement officials and judicial system employees.
SALARY AND BENEFITS
Hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Starting salary range depends on position and comes with a complete County benefits package including health and life insurance, paid leave, and pension.
